Recently, signing ceremony of college-enterprise cooperation between China Baowu and Wuhan University of Science and Technology and inauguration ceremony of “China Baowu·Wuhan University of Science and Technology Carbon Material United Engineering Research Center” were held in Wuhan University of Science and Technology. Establishment of Carbon Material United Engineering Research Center was conducive for college-enterprise resource sharing, and complementing of respective advantages to form core technologies with autonomous intellectual property rights, drive low-carbon economic development of our nation and promote industrial structure adjustment of chemical engineering of China Baowu Steel Group Cooperation and the building of “world-class universities and world-class disciplines” in Wuhan University of Science and Technology.
New material industry is one key industry for development in China Baowu. As flagship company of chemical engineering under China Baowu Steel Group Cooperation and carrier of carbon-based material industry development, Baosteel Chemical Engineering deeply plowed in coking industry for over thirty years, formed complete R&D, production and marketing management system with key production technologies of a series of new type carbon materials of needle coke, pitch coke, pitch carbon fiber etc. with autonomous intellectual property rights, and provided support for new material industry transformed development and fostering of carbon material industry in China Baowu.
Wuhan University of Science and Technology had long devoted itself to works of new type carbon material research, development and application, and had owned over ten items of national patents for invention in area of new type carbon material research. Its numerous items of research results had in recent years broken foreign technical blockade and monopoly, gained relatively big impact in carbon-element area in domestic China and overseas. This laid fine foundation for cooperation in carbon material area between colleges and enterprises.
Based on advantages in aspects of research, development and talent fostering in areas of chemical engineering, carbon materials of Wuhan University of Science and Technology, and incorporating experience in technology integration and engineering transfer of Baosteel Chemical Engineering, it established carbon material research platform capable of helping both sides to adopt measures of innovative R&D model and capital operation to further carry out united research and development and speed up pushing forward transformation of science and technology results.
The newly set up China Baowu·Wuhan University of Science and Technology Carbon Material United Engineering Research Center would focus on coal-serial general-grade pitch-based carbon fiber R&D, intermediate-phase pitch-based carbon fiber R&D, and application and development of downstream composite products of carbon fiber, and become important platform of Baosteel Chemical and Wuhan University of Science and Technology in fostering of excellent scientific research talents, carrying out scientific research and communication, developing key technologies, pushing forward incorporation of production, study and research.
